Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Companies (JJMDC) is delighted to announce that two of its projects have been shortlisted in four categories at the Health Service Journal (HSJ) Partnership Awards 2022, recognising the collaborations and partnerships driving transformations and improving patient outcomes across the NHS.
As the challenges of COVID-19 affected the number of stroke admissions to Royal London Hospital and other Mechanical Thrombectomy (MT) centres, Barts Health NHS Trust partnered with JJMDC to improve the efficiency of their MT service. This project focused on streamlining the patient pathway, reducing the door to groin time (the time taken for patients arriving in to ED to treatment), and developing an efficient Stroke Network to increase the availability of and access to life-saving Mechanical Thrombectomy treatment. The project has been shortlisted in two categories: Best Acute Sector Partnership with the NHS and Most Effective Contribution to Patient Safety.
The second partnership recognised by the HSJ is an orthopaedic initiative created by University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust supported by the Services and Solutions Team from JJMDC. This initiative has successfully reduced the Length of Stay of elective Hip and Knee patients and significantly increased the number of patients being discharged on Day 1 or 2 postoperatively. Helping patients to safely get home sooner creates more capacity and may enable the Trust to reduce their waiting times for elective surgery that have arisen as a result of the Covid pandemic. This collaboration has seen the teams work to improve patient education, aligning expectations across the whole patient journey and by standardising protocols to allow patients to be safely discharged earlier. The Short Stay Hip and Knee Programme has been shortlisted for the Best Elective Care Recovery Initiative Award and the Best Healthcare Provider Partnership with the NHS Award.
Despite the demanding circumstances of the past 2 years, over 190 entries were received for this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards, with 123 projects making it to the final shortlist. The judging panel was once again made up of a diverse range of highly influential and respected figures within the healthcare community, including Dr Matt Aiello (National Programmes Lead, Education Reform, Health Education England); Dr Elena Bechberger (National Programme Director – LVHC Programme, NHS England and NHS Improvement); Claire Igoe (Head of Environmental Sustainability - Manchester University FT) and Vinice Thomas (Director of Nursing and Quality, NHS England and NHS Improvement).
Hugo Breda, Managing Director for JJMDC UKI, commented: “We are thrilled to have been recognised across four categories in these prestigious awards, not only recognising the collaboration between JJMDC and the Trusts we work with, but our dedication to delivering improved outcomes for our patients and the healthcare system as a whole. Good luck to all involved for the final.”
The selected winners will be announced during the awards ceremony at Westminster Park Plaza, London, on 24th March 2022.
