Johnson & Johnson MedTech receives high commendation for Most Effective Contribution to Patient Safety at 2022 HSJ PARTNERSHIP AWARDS

HSJ

The Johnson & Johnson MedTech UK team received a high commendation for the Most Effective Contribution to Patient Safety at this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards, following four nominations at the ceremony for two projects that recognise the ongoing innovation and collaboration with the NHS and local trusts.

The project that achieved special recognition was a partnership with The Royal London Hospital, run by Barts Health NHS Trust, CERENOVUS Stroke Solutions, part of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, and the Services & Solutions team at Johnson & Johnson MedTech UK, who developed a strong partnership to improve patient care and access to Mechanical Thrombectomy (MT) treatment for patients with acute strokes.

Through structured collaboration including an effective awareness campaign, pathway optimisation, creation of educational resources and development of stroke hospital referral events, the MT service saw growth in spite of pandemic pressures. The number of MT procedures increased from 93 (2020) to 256 (2021). The time taken for patients to be transferred from the emergency department to the interventional radiology department for treatment reduced by 54%, and time from MT procedure to repatriation and back to the stroke centre reduced from 78 to 36 hours .

On receiving this special mention from the judges, Hugo Breda, Managing Director of Johnson & Johnson MedTech UK & Ireland, comments, “We’re delighted to be awarded a high commendation for Most Effective Contribution to Patient Safety. It means a great deal to the teams involved to have their commitment to improving patient outcomes and hard work recognised in this way and we’re confident that the positive impact of this award will help to create a long-lasting legacy. We’re proud to be considered part of the awards alumni – a community bound by a commitment to improve healthcare for all.”
