CINCINNATI, OH – April 18, 2022 -- Ethicon*, part of Johnson & Johnson MedTech**, announces the launch of the ENSEAL X1 Straight Jaw Tissue Sealer, a new advanced bipolar energy device that cuts and transects, enables stronger sealing, and captures more tissue per bite than the LigaSure Blunt Tip, a tissue sealing device from Medtronic1,2.

Designed with a longer jaw and longer cut length, the ENSEAL X1 Straight Jaw captures more tissue per bite 1,3 and enables more secure sealing through burst pressures that are 19% higher than LigaSure Blunt Tip 2.  A 360-degree rotating shaft enables easy access to targeted tissue3. Clinical studies have shown that the ENSEAL X1 Straight Jaw Tissue Sealer produced minimal lateral thermal spread9.

“The Enseal was superb for delicate dissections,” said Dr. Smitha Vilasagar***, who performed the first case worldwide. “I was very impressed with the ease of using the device and the sealing was excellent.”

The ENSEAL X1 Straight Jaw is indicated for use in open and laparoscopic general, gynecological, urologic, thoracic, and ENT surgical procedures or any procedure where vessel ligation, tissue grasping, dissection, and division of vessels, lymphatics, and tissue bundles is performed. ENSEAL X1 Straight Jaw features the same handle design as existing X1 products, which features separate seal and cut capabilities4. Its ergonomic design includes conveniently placed control buttons that are designed for less hand movement and one-handed operation.5

This latest innovation in tissue sealing from Ethicon builds upon the industry’s most comprehensive portfolio of intelligent energy solutions, which also includes the recently introduced ENSEAL X1 Curved and ENSEAL X1 Large Jaw Tissue Sealers, HARMONIC ultrasonic devices and MEGADYNE core electrosurgical tools.6

“We designed the devices in our energy portfolio with our goals to enable faster healing, improve OR safety and efficiency, and allowing surgeons to achieve the best possible patient outcomes in open or laparoscopic surgical procedures,” said Kate Masschelein, President, Ethicon. “Leveraging our deep understanding of the science of tissue management, we will continue to innovate and provide solutions that set new standards for the use of energy in surgery.”
