Consultant Education - Bone Infection Master Class
This series has been designed to deliver an in-depth exploration into the key aspects of bone infection and its treatment. A fundamental background, diagnosis and assessment, operative management of OM and a detailed look into special circumstances.

Episode 1: A Master Class of Current Knowledge
In this first episode, the faculty will review the epidemiology of Osteomyelitis, examine the basic science surrounding bone infection, focusing on Bio-Film and then look at the current guidelines in place. This session will include didactic presentations, case base discussion and discussion between faculty as well as questions from the audience.

Episode 2: Diagnosis and Assessment
Welcome to episode 2 in this master class on bone infection. In this episode we will focus primarily on the diagnosis and assessment of the trauma patient with infection.
We will explore in detail three core areas, namely, clinical assessment and the MDT approach, imaging, and its relevance in treating this patient group and then the importance of understanding patient co morbidity’s and the influence they have on treatment and outcomes.

Episode 3: Operative Treatment
Welcome to episode 3 in this master class on bone infection. In this episode we will focus primarily on the operative treatment of the trauma patient with infection.
We will explore in detail three core areas, namely surgical management of the boney defect, soft tissue considerations and its reconstruction and then explore how to manage these patients with open fractures.

Episode 4: Special Circumstances
Welcome to episode 4 in this master class on bone infection. In this episode we will focus primarily on some of the special circumstances where the treatment of Osteomyelitis is more challenging.
We will explore in detail three new areas, namely the treatment considerations for patients with diabetic foot conditions, fracture related implant infections and periprosthetic joint infections.
Specialist Trainee Education - Registrar Program
This series is aimed at UK Orthopaedic trainees who wish to broaden their knowledge on some of the more specialised areas of trauma care. We welcome trainees at all levels and Consultants with an interest in this topic.

Episode 1: Orthoplastics
In this episode, the faculty will review the principles of managing open fractures, focusing on the management of the soft tissue injury. They will outline the critical aspects of early in-hospital / emergency department management, temporising operative strategies and definitive surgery. Case examples will be reviewed in detail in order to explore the joint decision-making process (by both Orthopaedic Surgeons and Plastic Surgeons) that is required in order to manage these devastating injuries effectively.

Episode 2: Implant Materials
In this episode, the faculty will review the basic science surrounding the numerous implant materials used within the sphere of traumatology. This will include the relationship between implant material choice and its influence on fracture healing. Faculty will also explore the some of the engineering and manufacturing aspects of materials commonly used in implant design and look to dispel some of the myths around this commonly overlooked science.

Episode 3: Rib Fractures
In this episode, the faculty will review the basic science surrounding severe chest injury, the difficult decisions that need to be made when treating these patients, resuscitation of the severely chest injured patient and then basic management principles to ensure you get surgery right.
