Johnson & Johnson MedTech Launches the DUALTO™ Energy System for Use Across Surgical Treatment Approaches

Dualto

Johnson & Johnson MedTech, a global leader in surgical technologies and solutions, launches the DUALTO™ Energy System, a surgical solution that combines multiple energy modalities into an integrated platform for use across open and minimally invasive surgery. The system is designed to work with the Polyphonic™ Fleet software application for device management.

DUALTO™ has been developed to offer clinical teams the choice of powering monopolar, bipolar, ultrasonic, and advanced bipolar instruments, including HARMONIC™ and ENSEAL™ devices, from a single, consolidated system. The modular design and flexible architecture allow for up to 46% less footprint versus separate generators.1I DUALTO™ is also the first and only surgical energy system that will be available in a double configuration, allowing two surgeons to work in a complex procedure and activate simultaneous energy from one electrosurgical unit.

“The launch of the DUALTO™ Energy System is a significant milestone for surgical care in the UK. This innovative system offers a dual platform allowing surgical teams to operate more efficiently and effectively," said Angela Bagnall, J&J MedTech UK General Manager, Surgery. "At Johnson & Johnson MedTech, we’re proud to offer a solution that integrates the Polyphonic digital ecosystem, which includes fleet management, enabling a future-ready, digitally connected environment for healthcare professionals.”

Adaptive technology for more precise energy delivery
DUALTO™ leverages proprietary Adaptive Tissue Technology, enhancing the performance of HARMONIC™ and ENSEAL™ advanced energy devices. Adaptive Tissue Technology works with the GEN11 to provide enhanced feedback, enabling more precise energy delivery and improved temperature management.2-4II HARMONIC™ 700 and HARMONIC™ FOCUS™+ demonstrated up to 18% and 25% faster transection speeds when used with the DUALTO™ Energy System.5III,6IV

A human-centric, simplified approach to surgical energy
Streamlined OR setup can help minimise stress levels for surgeons and their clinical teams in the OR.7V The design of DUALTO™ prioritises usability – the instinctive touchscreen interface offers guided setup and troubleshooting, features clear visual and auditory cues for real-time feedback, and streamlines workflows in the operating room. With the capability to store personalised profiles for different surgeons and procedures, DUALTO™ supports faster setup and adjustments through custom energy settings.

“The DUALTO™ was very easy to use and an effective energy platform.” said Dr Andrei Ilczyszyn*, consultant Bariatric and Upper GI Surgeon at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. “The small footprint and ability to use multiple devices will be invaluable.”

Introducing Polyphonic™ Fleet
The DUALTO™ Energy System is designed to work with Polyphonic™ Fleet – an easy-to-use software application that helps hospitals oversee capital equipment. Polyphonic™ Fleet can inform the status of DUALTO™ for software upgrades and routine maintenance needs and provide instructions remotely, helping biomedical managers, engineers, and other users ensure the system has the latest software without disrupting the operating room schedule.

The Polyphonic™ digital ecosystem, which includes Polyphonic™ Fleet, will connect data across world-class surgical technologies, robotics, and surgical software while leveraging the global scale of Johnson & Johnson.

Footnotes
* Dr Andrei Ilczyszyn has not been compensated for his testimonial.

I. In a R&D study measuring stacked volume of TES and current generator systems in the market. (GEN11, MEGEN1, Valleylab™ FT10, ERBE VIO 3, Olympus ESG-400/USG-400) For any stacked generator measurements, the largest length and widths of one unit with the combined height of both units was measured. Measurements compare a Double DUALTO™ Energy System with two Energy Modules to four current systems stacked. A Single DUALTO™ Energy System with one energy module is up to 23% less footprint compared to ERBE and GEN11 systems stacked. Footprint defined as the volume of space, either potential floor or boom space, taken up by energy generators.

II. Vs. HARMONIC™ ACE™ without Adaptive Tissue Technology. Pre-clinical test data are not necessarily indicative of clinical performance.

III. In a R&D study evaluating performance improvements of the HARMONIC™ 700 instrument family on the DUALTO™ Energy System compared to the GEN11 Generator on thick porcine mesentery (p <0.05). Based on pre-clinical testing on animal models and clinical effect is unknown.

IV. In a R&D study evaluating performance improvements of the HARMONIC™ Focus+ instrument family on the DUALTO™ Energy System compared to theGEN11 Generator on a thick tissue model (p <0.05), with 30 comparison transections. Based on benchtop testing and clinical effect is unknown.

V. In a summative usability study, with surgeons (n=33) that went through an end-to-end procedure and afterward responded to a series of statements regarding the DUALTO™ Energy System (32/33 agree).
