Post-operative patient care
Typical recommendations for post-operative care may include but are not limited to any of the following:
- Patient usually recovers in ICU setting with continuous hemodynamic and EKG monitoring and to follow the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathway.
- Patients are assessed for bleeding from the chest tubes.
- If stable then goal to awaken patient and extubate within 2-6 hours.
- To be transferred to the stepdown unit next day.
- Discharged 4-6 days post-surgery.
- Follow-up within first 2-4 weeks, depending on surgeon practice.
