Typical recommendations for post-operative care may include but are not limited to any of the following:

  • Patient usually recover in ICU setting with continuous hemodynamic and EKG monitoring and to follow the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) pathway. 
  • Patients are assessed for bleeding from the chest tubes.
  • If stable then goal to awaken patient and extubate within 2-6 hours.
  • To be transferred to the stepdown unit next day.
  • Discharged 4-6 days post-surgery.
  • Follow-up within first 2-4 weeks, depending on surgeon practice.
