About this Device

STRATAFIX Spiral Knotless Tissue Control Devices have barbs in a spiral pattern and are available in both bidirectional and unidirectional designs. The barbs allow for tissue approximation without the need to tie surgical knots. The bidirectional design has a needle at both ends of the suture strand, whereas the unidirectional design has a loop at one end and a needle at the other. Plus antibacterial technology is available for both bidirectional and unidirectional designs.

Economic Outcomes

In a retrospective cohort study comparing economic and clinical outcomes of STRATAFIX™ Knotless Tissue Control Devices with conventional, non-barbed sutures in spinal surgery patients, the patient group with STRATAFIX™ was associated with:C14

  • Significantly lower mean OR time (239±117 minutes vs 263±79 minutes, P=0.015)
  • Significantly lower mean OR costs ($6,673±$3,976 vs $7,710±$2,700, P=0.020)

Clinical Outcomes

In a randomized clinical trial comparing STRATAFIX Spiral Knotless Tissue Control Device bidirectional to traditional suturing during uterine closure in C-section, STRATAFIX was associated withAB13:

  • 18% reduced blood loss (P<0.005)
  • 49% fewer hemostatic sutures required (P<0.001)
  • 38% faster uterine closure (P<0.001)

Strength Retention

STRATAFIX™ Spiral PDS™ Plus Knotless Tissue Control Devices are as strong as V-Loc™ 180 Wound Closure Devices at time zero and provide greater strength retention over time.DE15-17

More Efficiency

STRATAFIX™ barbed sutures can close wounds substantially faster than using an interrupted technique,18-20 resulting in significant time savings in the OR.18 Bidirectional STRATAFIX Spiral Devices improve efficiency by allowing 2 clinicians to close at the same time with a
single device.

Antibacterial Protection

STRATAFIX™ Plus Devices are the only commercially available barbed sutures with triclosan, which inhibits colonization of the device by methicillin-resistant S aureus (MRSA), methicillin-resistant S epidermidis (MRSE), and other bacteria linked to SSIs.FGH21 STRATAFIX™ Plus Devices with triclosan coating exhibited 99.9% fewer bacteria vs non-triclosan-coated V-Loc™ in vitro.IJ22,23

Triclosan has in vitro activity that inhibits bacterial colonization of the suture. Petri dish image for illustrative purposes only.

Device Specifications and Comparisons

STRATAFIX Spiral Knotless Tissue Control Device with plus suture technology are indicated for use in soft tissue approximation where the use of absorbable sutures are appropriate.
