About this Device
STRATAFIX Symmetric Knotless Tissue Control Device is an antibacterial, absorbable, barbed suture. It has unidirectional anchors, equipped with a surgical needle at one end and a fixation tab at the other end. The anchors and fixation tab design allow for tissue approximation without the need to tie surgical knots.
Specialties
For use in, but not limited to: Bariatrics, Cardiovascular, Colorectal, General, Hernia, Hepatobiliary, Neurosurgery, OB/GYN, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology and Vascular
Procedures
For use in open, laparoscopic and robotic procedures, including but not limited to: Abdominoplasty, Breast Reconstruction , C-section, CABG, Myomectomy, Hysterectomy, Laparotomy, Midline Closure, Total Knee Replacement, Total Hip Replacement, Spinal Procedures, Hernia Repair, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Bypass, Prostatectomy, Nephrectomy, Left, Right, or Sigmoid Colectomy, Low Anterior Resection, Sternotomy, Thoracotomy, and Hepatectomy
Economic Outcomes
In a total joint arthroplasty, watertight multi-layer closure comparing conventional sutures and staples with STRATAFIX Symmetric Plus Knotless Tissue Control Device, STRATAFIX Spiral Knotless Tissue Control Device and DERMABOND™ PRINEO™ Skin Closure System was associated with14:
- Significantly lower incidence of discharge to a non-home settingB
- Significantly increased days to readmissionC
- Significantly shorter length of stayC
- Significantly fewer reoperations within 90 daysC
Clinical Outcomes
In a randomized controlled ex-vivo human cadaveric study with arthrotomies closed using STRATAFIX Symmetric on one knee and interrupted conventional suture on the contralateral knee from the same donor, STRATAFIX was associated withA13:
- Lower leak rate, indicating that there was no “sawing effect” of the barbs on the tissue
- Better watertight closure in dynamic motion and suture release scenarios
- Better maintenance of the knee arthrotomy closure
Features & Benefits

Strength
STRATAFIX Symmetric PDS Plus Devices demonstrated superior tissue holding strength compared to interrupted technique with Coated VICRYL™ (polyglactin 910) Suture, continuous technique with PDS™ 5 (polydioxanone) Suture, and V-Loc™ 180 Wound Closure Device.DE7

Efficiency
STRATAFIX™ barbed sutures can close wounds substantially faster than using an interrupted technique, resulting in significant time savings in the OR.15-17

Protection
STRATAFIX™ Plus Knotless Tissue Control Devices have been shown in vitro to inhibit bacterial colonization of the suture for 7 days or more,18-22 for protection against the most common organisms associated with surgical site infections (SSIs).
Triclosan has in vitro activity that inhibits bacterial colonization of the suture. Petri dish image for illustrative purposes only.
