From improving our packaging to ensuring our worksites are held to the highest environmental management standards, we want everything we do to be done with sustainability in mind.

Some of our recent sustainability efforts include:

• Reducing the usage of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at our LeLocle, Switzerland facility by replacing traditional degreasing methods with a VOC-free water-based cleaning method.
• Nearly eliminating the use of PVC in all Warsaw-based packaging.
• Implementing electronic IFUs (Instructions for Use) for a range of products from our Blackpool, England facility to reduce overall paper usage.

Additionally, all our global sites work toward the highest environmental management standards, with multiple facilities receiving ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certification.

Our leadership and facilities have also been awarded various environmental and sustainability awards, including:

• The State of Indiana’s prestigious Environmental Stewardship Program was awarded the Warsaw facility membership for their contributions to continuous environmental improvements and demonstration of long-term compliance with environmental laws.
• The Johnson & Johnson Sustainability Award was given to DePuy Synthes facilities in Cork, Ireland, and Leeds, England, for their environmental leadership efforts.

And we’re not stopping here. Every day we look for new ways to deliver orthopaedic care technology that cares for our planet just as much as it cares for your patients.

Because of our global reach, DePuy Synthes is uniquely positioned to improve the lives of those in need through product donations, charitable giving, and worldwide community involvement.

Patients in countries around the globe—Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Ghana, Pakistan, China, and more— regularly benefit from DePuy Synthes product donations through targeted medical missions, often accompanied by DePuy Synthes personnel to aid in these efforts.

Since 2006, our DePuy Synthes International organization has also supported Open Arms Malawi, providing housing, food, and funds to the children of Malawi impacted and orphaned by HIV/AIDS. Our volunteers also regularly travel to Malawi to help them build and maintain these facilities so they can continue to serve children for years to come. 

Additionally, in cooperation with Johnson & Johnson, we support the international program Safe Kids, which promotes child safety educational programs worldwide. 

Other international charitable organizations we support include:

It is vitally important that we always look at our potential for impact on a global scale and continue to serve as good citizens of the world wherever we are able. 

We believe that some of our greatest impacts can be made by our employees and leadership reaching out to directly impact their local communities.
 
Employees at our facilities worldwide volunteer as mentors to school children, donate blood, assemble food baskets for needy families, and find other opportunities to directly improve their neighborhoods.

In the U.S., our staff volunteer with Junior Achievement and support City Year. In Warsaw, Indiana, we support the Purdue University, Fort Wayne Health Education Consortium for disadvantaged students.
 
Beyond the U.S., we support education in our local communities by going into classrooms and welcoming students to our facilities to learn more about career options. Our campuses also donate to those in need by providing meals and other essentials to their communities.
