About this device
The ETHICON™ Circular Stapler was designed for creating the anastomosis in colorectal, bariatric, and thoracic procedures. It includes manual firing and adjustable staple height technology that allows the user to adjust compression based on patients’ specific tissue conditions.4

More control
Controlled tissue compression, with an adjustable closed staple height range of 1.5-2.2mm4, delivered significantly less tissue damage compared to circular staplers with fixed compression.5B

Gentle on tissue
The fixed anvil design and continuously smooth anvil shaft, produced significantly less tissue movement during closure and tissue strain during opening than the Medtronic DST Series™ EEA™ Stapler with its tilting anvil.6C

Device feedback
The breakaway washer gives more audible and tactile feedback than the Medtronic DST Series EEA,7D to help confirm a formed anastomosis.

A. In retrospective clinical study with ETHICON Circular Staplers (CDH21A, CDH25A, CDH29A, CDH33A), 11 out of 126 patients with precompression had AL (8.7% leak rate) vs. 8 out of 28 patients (28.6%) in non-precompression group; P=0.008
B. In-vitro collagen tissue model with ETHICON Circular Staplers, 19 out of 232 collagen tissues exhibited unacceptable tissue damage with adjustable compression (CDH29A), vs. 29 out of 88 with Medtronic fixed compression (EEA28MT).
C. Benchtop testing on porcine colon, comparing means of 1.214mm for Ethicon CDH29B (n=23) to 10.240mm for Medtronic EEA28 (n=23), p<0.001
D. Benchtop testing comparing average vibration measured as mean vectorial acceleration during firing. ECS29B 11.76 m/s2 vs EEA 3.71 m/s2, (p<0.001, 95% CI for difference = 6.79 m/s2, 9.32 m/s2).
