Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Safety information for using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for patients who have Johnson & Johnson medical devices varies by product. In some instances, the devices have not been thoroughly evaluated and/or tested for compatibility in the magnetic resonance environment.
Scanning patients with medical devices may result in injury. To avoid risks that include heating, migration and other image artifacts at or near the implant site, healthcare professionals (HCPs) must complete a medical information request to receive MRI safety information details on the device in question.
What is a Medical Information Request?
A medical information request (MIR) is any unsolicited request from an HCP for medical, scientific or technical information that is routed to Medical Affairs because it cannot be answered based on a particular product’s current prescribing information or Instructions for Use (IFU) as cleared or approved by the appropriate competent regulatory authority, such as the Food and Drug Administration or another local authority.
