68 year-old Jim played a couple of hundred games of rugby league and more than 2000 games of basketball, playing in representative teams until he retired at the age of 55. But a long sporting career has taken its toll. Jim has been diagnosed with osteoarthritis, a breakdown of cartilage in his knees. Jim tried pain and anti-inflammatory medications, losing weight, and physiotherapy, but the pain continued to get worse. He was referred to an orthopaedic surgeon and they have decided it was time to have total knee replacements on both knees.
