• Ensure medically optimized and any required investigations completed, including up-to-date imaging.
  • Stop/continue medications in line with local guidelines and anesthetic advice. Consider management of anticoagulation, diabetic medication and immunosuppressants.
  • Decolonization protocols in line with local guidelines
  • Ensure patient/nursing staff informed of fasting instructions
  • Surgical site marked
  • Consent confirmed.
  • Pre-operative templating for the AP as well as Lateral view
  • Pelvis x-ray may be used during surgery to compare hips for length and offset
  • Use image intensifier for hip comparison as well as to determine cup positioning, cup size, and depth of reaming
  • Preoperative safety checklist for the Orthopaedic table:
    • Lock the table wheels
    • Table is mechanically functional
    • Level the table
    • Know power sources and how to reset the table if needed
    • Check lights on the control panel
    • Double check Bracket Lift and foot pedal
    • Double check Leg Spar
